Bolon announces Milan Design Week installation, RIQUADRO, in collaboration with Martino Gamper
[25 March, 2026] At Milan Design Week 2026, Bolon, the family-run, climate-neutral woven flooring company from Sweden, will present RIQUADRO, an artistic collaboration with Italian designer Martino Gamper (OBE).
Hosted at BOLON STUDIO as part of this year’s Capsule Plaza, RIQUADRO reimagines flooring—often the largest, yet most overlooked element of an interior space—as an active architectural surface, transforming Bolon’s sustainable woven product into a series of wall-framed and spatial installations that come together to create a kaleidoscopic total environment of colour and shape.
RIQUADRO is the result of Martino Gamper and Bolon’s shared belief that functional design and conceptual art are not opposing disciplines, but intertwined practices. Gamper’s investigative practice treats the loom as a drawing tool: cutting, layering, and recombining surfaces to reveal the material’s artistry and adaptability across scales and spatial contexts.
The works are designed to be deliberately tactile, creating a continuous interaction between object and user. “My work invites engagement through everyday life, designed to be walked on, lived with and experienced”, says Martino Gamper.
Embracing natural influences, Bolon’s presentation reinforces the brand’s deeply embedded, long term commitment to climate neutral products and production. All of Bolon’s products contain 68% waste material, with zero climate impact in every square meter.
RIQUADRO continues an ongoing collaboration between Bolon and Gamper. Sisters Marie and Annica Eklund, who lead the third generation family company, note: “Our collaboration with Martino Gamper has initiated a beautiful new dialogue with our product, rooted in our mutual respect for process and material. RIQUADRO disregards assumptions that surround flooring, treating it as an active, expressive surface that can become an artful part of the everyday.” – Marie Eklund (Owner and CEO, Bolon) and Annica Eklund (Owner and Senior Creative Director, Bolon).
